A Maui wedding or vow renewal in Wailea …
is celebrated in one of Maui's most thoughtfully developed resort areas. Like all Maui beach locations, the shorelines are public and most are easily accessible. From Ulua Beach to Polo Beach, you'll discover stretches of sand and water broken by black lava flow and dotted with graceful coconut palms.
This stretch of Hawaii's coastal area is an historical treasure trove. In the 1940s, American troops encamped on its shores, preparing for the invasions of Tarawa, Iwo Jima and other islands of the Pacific. Remnants of that era remain on some of these beaches. At Ulua Beach you'll discover a concrete pill box (a protected machine gun placement). Scuba divers often find spent shells from practise rounds fired in the near-shore waters.
It is interesting that beaches once used to train soldiers, now host couples from around the world, to celebrate their love in marriage or with a vow renewal.

Wailea Beach, not pictured, fronts the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons resorts. The north (Grand Wailea) side and the southern end (in fronting Four Seasons) work best for weddings or vow renewals.
